From what I have experienced watching this video, this is what I aspire to be and do. I trained Shotokan Karate in Japan, JKA Shotokan & in Texas American Kenpo, exposing our black youth to the character building traits of the martial arts. I am going to buy his book "BattleCry"

Some of the kids probably can't answer for fear that they will get in trouble with their parents, and it might be something very personal that only they can talk to him in private about. It will probably blow a person's mind if the child really answered that question as to why they are really angry, sad, or hurt. Some kids will even make up a story to cover up & protect the person or predator who is abusing them.

Why don't we teach this to women too? I think developing mental fortitude and resilience is just as important to guys as it is to women. But yet, in most cases, people educate it as you need to learn this as a man. But women need to learn these too. I cant help but think that perhaps this is the reason guys become more resilient and women just become drama queens. Also I'm typing these in a general way. I do know that everyone has different personalities but what im sharing is that i believe people in general benefit from mental training and not just guys

Please have description saying: kid dodges stick; martial arts; teaching student not to anticipate: don't dodge too early; kid ducking too early; instructor swinging stick over kids head. Etc. I have been looking for this video for the past half hour and I kept typing everything to try and find this. Would be good to have more keywords for people to find it

Great words. My father and mother passed away when I was 8 (now 32) and I still use what they've taught me, especially through the use of pugilism and nursing. They're long gone, yet they're still my heroes.

A good lesson for all ages. As a teacher, I am grateful for these small reminders.
